Kolkata, June 10: Captains Tanushree Sarkar and Saika Ishaque led from the front as Murshidabad Kueens and Sobisco Smashers Malda secured important victories in the Women’s Bengal T20 League at the JU Salt Lake Stadium on Wednesday.
Murshidabad Kueens made it back-to-back wins with a six-wicket victory over Servotech Siliguri Strikers. After opting to bat first, the Strikers battled hard on a surface that offered assistance to the bowlers and finished on 119/6. Dyuti Paul top-scored with 27, while Sneha Gupta and Roshni Khatoon added 24 and an unbeaten 23, respectively.
The Kueens’ bowlers kept things tight throughout the innings, with skipper Tanushree Sarkar setting the tone with figures of 1/22. Their disciplined effort ensured Servotech were unable to build any significant momentum.
The chase began on a shaky note as Murshidabad lost three wickets inside the powerplay, but Sarkar once again stepped up when her side needed her most. Tanushree Sarkar anchored the innings with an unbeaten 61 off 49 balls to guide the Kueens home with ten deliveries to spare.
In the day’s other fixture, Sobisco Smashers Malda overcame Rashmi NES Medinipur Wizards in a rain-affected contest, with Saika Ishaque starring with both bat and ball.
The Wizards recovered from early setbacks to post 101/6, thanks to an unbeaten 40 from Riya Goswami and 21 from Hrishita Basu. Saika was instrumental in restricting the scoring, returning impressive figures of 3/17, while Preyoshi Pandey chipped in with an economical spell of 1/13 in her 4 overs.
Rain during the innings break revised Malda’s target to 73 runs in 15.2 overs. Despite losing their opening pair early, Malda remained firmly in control through Saika’s unbeaten 51. Supported by Mamta Kisku’s 12, the skipper guided her side to 84/3 and sealed a comfortable victory.
