Sobisco Smashers Malda Overcome Kueens; Shrachi Rarh Tigers Secure Third Victory

Kolkata, June 12:  Sobisco Smashers Malda and Shrachi Rarh Tigers produced disciplined bowling performances to register comfortable victories in the Women’s Bengal T20 League at the JU Salt Lake Stadium on Friday.

In the first match of the day, Sobisco Smashers Malda defeated Murshidabad Kueens by six wickets in a low-scoring contest. Asked to bat first, the Kueens struggled to build partnerships after losing early wickets. Jahanbi Raj Paswaan top-scored with 27 off 23 balls, while Shivanshi Tiwari and Prativa Rana contributed 21 runs each to help their side reach 114/6 in 20 overs.

Sobisco’s bowlers kept things tight throughout the innings, with Snigdha Bag and Prativa Mandi picking up two wickets apiece. Their disciplined effort ensured Murshidabad never gained enough momentum to post a challenging total.

The chase got off to a shaky start as Sobisco lost three wickets in the powerplay, but skipper Saika Ishaque steadied the innings with a crucial 26. Parama Mondal then anchored the chase with an unbeaten 32 off 27 deliveries, while Mamta Kisku provided valuable support as Malda crossed the finish line with seven balls to spare.

Later in the day, Shrachi Rarh Tigers delivered a dominant all-round performance to outclass Novus Royals Purulia by seven wickets. Put in to bat, Purulia found scoring difficult from the outset as Bidisha Dey struck in the very first over and bowled two successive maidens with the new ball. The pressure continued through the middle overs, with Tigers captain Piyali Ghosh claiming two wickets in a superb spell that conceded just nine runs.

Dhara Gujjar fought a lone battle with 36, but regular wickets prevented Purulia from gaining momentum as they were restricted to 78/7 in their 20 overs. Bidisha finished with outstanding figures of 3/6, while the Tigers’ bowlers collectively conceded only five boundaries and a solitary six in the innings.

Chasing 79, Shrachi Rarh Tigers approached the target confidently despite losing a couple of wickets. Bristi Maji and Sasthi Mandal helped lay the foundation before the Tigers comfortably completed the chase with seven overs remaining, securing their third win of the season.

Bidisha Dey’s exceptional spell and Parama Mondal’s match-winning knock were the standout performances as Shrachi Rarh Tigers and Sobisco Smashers Malda collected two valuable points each.
