Kolkata, June 14: Sobisco Smashers Malda scripted the highest successful run chase in the history of the Bengal T20 League at Eden Gardens on Sunday.
Chasing a record 203 to win, Malda got the job done easily, scoring 204/5 in 18.4 overs to beat Rashmi Nes Medinipur Wizards by 5 wickets.
Before today, the highest successful chase was 189 by Malda against Servotech Siliguri Strikers in 2024.
In the chase, Akhil (48 off 21) and Abhimanyu Easwaran (52 off 29) gave Malda the perfect start. In the middle overs, Prayas Ray Barman (32 off 19) provided the much-needed boost with some power hitting.
At the end, Kaif Ahmed (37 not out off 19) single-handedly powered Malda over the line along with Agniv Pan (13 not out off 8).
Earlier, batting first, Rashmi Nes Medinipur Wizards scored 202/4 in 20 overs, thanks to Agniswar Das (69 off 48), Anustup Majumdar (58 off 36) and Vivek Singh (41 not out off 21).
Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal was the pick of the Malda bowlers, bagging two wickets.
In the day’s second match, leading from the front, Shahbaz Ahmed produced a fine all-round performance as Shrachi Rarh Tigers beat Adamas Howrah Warriors by 1 wicket.
Batting first, Writtick Chatterjee (64 off 43) and captain Shakir Habib Gandhi (60 off 39) powered Howrah Warriors to 179/6 in 20 overs.
For Rarh Tigers, Rohit Kumar and Shahbaz Ahmed bagged two wickets each.
In reply, Rarh Tigers went over the line, scoring 182/9 in 20 overs. Shahbaz (35), Sumit Nag (28) and Rahul Prasad (24) were the pick of the batters.
Sonu Himanshu bagged four wickets for Howrah Warriors.
